Valentina Matvienko, Governor of Saint-Petersburg, is sure that the city will become spot of Olympics some day.

“We are all glad, that Sochi has obtained the right to hold Winter Olympics of 2014. I am sure the organization of the Games will be high-level. Russia has made great contribution to the development of the Olympic movement and training of the Olympic champions. This contribution, in my opinion, is underestimated in the world”, noticed Matvienko on one of her interviews.

The governor thinks, that Petersburg due to its geopolitical location and role in the development of the country can pretend to be the spot of Olympics.

“If it doesn’t obtain the right to launch the Games in 2020, the next Olympics are sure to be held in Saint-Petersburg. There is no any doubt about this”, - Matvienko said

She emphasized that the city has all the facilities to organize the Games.

We devote much attention to the development of the sport infrastructure. We complete establishments of the Olympic level – they can be engaged in case the Games are run in Petersburg.

According to her the best swimming pool in Europe has been built in the city. The construction of the stadium has been started and all the requirements of UEFA are taken into account. It will be possible to run any competition there.

“We develop sport infrastructure every way, but not only for he future Games. We want to make sport development become national idea”, Matvienko noticed.
