The building that will host the Hilton hotel housed Leningradskaya Hotel.

It is one of the seven towers surrounding the city’s skyline, built in 1947 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of Moscow.

The style of the towers was dubbed as “Stalin classicism” and featured elements of Naryshkin Baroque, Gothic and Russian Orthodox cultures to emphasize the rich historical and cultural heritage of Russia. The precisely shaped, tall towers overlook Moscow’s Garden ring, encompassing the central part of the city.

“After 50 years of its existence, the hotel got worn out, and we couldn’t survive with the new standards in place,” said Lubov Aprelikova, the Sales and Marketing Director for the project.

New Hilton Hotel is fully equipped with all of the latest features, in accordance with all the current standards of the hotel industry. Among these features are LCD screens, laptop-size safes, ironing boards, high-speed internet and Wi-Fi, as well as UK standard outlets in every room. Even the mirrors are heated to prevent them from fogging up.

The hotel is distinguished by its signature chandelier scaling six floors that has made its way into the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s longest bronze chandelier. The basement, which used to have a bomb shelter as another sign of the times, now accommodates a fitness center and a swimming pool.

There are a total of 273 rooms, including 43 Hilton Guest rooms, 157 deluxe rooms, 39 executive rooms, 26 junior suites, and two Corner Suites. The prices for guest rooms start at 12 thousand rubles per night ($510), while one of the hotel’s five historical suites would cost from 60 thousand per night ($2,550) and the Presidential Suite starts at 70 thousand ($3000). The Hilton is another addition to the long list of Moscow’s expensive luxury hotels.

“It’s very important that Hilton is going to open here in Moscow, as yet another major player of the global economy is coming here,” said the Minister Counselor of the Italian embassy in Russia Stefano Pontecorvo. “This will show that it is possible to do business in Russia, and it is possible to do really good business in Russia.”

“It certainly carries economic significance, as it improves the landscape in Moscow from the hotel point of view, and it also demonstrates that Moscow is a very serious economic powerhouse, renowned worldwide. It’s a very good indicator for everybody,” Pontecorvo added.
