Friend of Putin will build spa-resort in Estonia

Next-Stop.ru | 1 July 2008
A businessman from Saint-Petersburg Andrew Katkov (considered to be the friend of Vladimir Putin, prime-minister) will invest €30 mln to the construction of spa-resort in Narva-Jõesuu, Estonia.

The spa-resort will include four-star hotel totaling 164 rooms, cottages, spa-center, sport complex, tennis courts, restaurants and housing estates.

In the 19th century and early 20th centuries Narva-Jõesuu was a spa town frequented by nobility from St. Petersburg, which is less than 150km to the east, and during the Soviet period was a popular summer destination for visitors from the renamed Leningrad.

Today the seven-kilometre-long white sand beach lined with pine trees is used mainly by locals, although some visitors do come from Finland.
