The governor of Saint-Petersburg Valentina Matvienko plans to quicken the process of construction of the multifunctional complex “Baltijskaya zhemchyuzhina”. According to the correspondent of RBK this was reported by the head of the city today during the meeting of the governor with the chairman of the board of directors of Shanghai industry and investment corporation Ten Ilun.

“Today I will ask the investor to speed the project implementation. If it is necessary the assistance can be rendered the corporation by the city”, the governor reported.

According to Matvienko there are no any problems that hamper the construction.

“The underground part of the construction has been implemented. It was the longest and the most expensive stage of the construction”, explained the governor.

According to the chairman $600-700 mln have already been invested to the project. The corporation is going to put the same sum to the construction by the end of 2009.

The complex “Baltijskaya zhemchyuzhina” is located in the southwest of Saint-Petersburg. The construction of the complex started in 2005. It will include 1,73 mln m2 of living space and 63 ths m2 of social infrastructure. The whole area of the shopping and commercial zone will be 509 ths m2. This zone will include exhibition and office buildings, hotels, aqua park, oceanarium, reastaurants, entertainment and shopping centers. According to the primary calculations the budget of the project will be $1,3 bln. The complex will accommodate 35,4 ths residents. The proposal was made to complete the construction in 2014.
